In our last blog post, we adventured out of the studio to discover some of the wonderful photo locations scattered around the Homewood-Flossmoor area. If you didn’t have a chance to read it, you can find the post here. Today, we are going to delve into the pros and cons of having your photo session inside our studio or outside at one of your favorite Chicagoland locations.
First up is our studio located in Homewood:
Pros: A studio session is a tried and true method for creating stunning family portraits, headshots, and more. In our studio, bad weather won’t stop your session, and kids are more easily entertained in our toy area. Our studio also features a more private environment which allows for quicker and more frequent wardrobe changes. On top of everything, our studio allows for more control of lighting, making the session quicker for all involved.
Cons: Our studio has limited space, which can make the process longer for larger families. Another drawback is that while indoors, less organic and candid moments can be captured due to the limited setting.
Next is our outdoor photo sessions:
Pros: Nothing creates a unique background for your photos quite like a vibrant, outdoor setting.
Outside, everyone has more room to move around and feel more comfortable throughout the session. The added space also helps us pose your photo’s in unique ways regardless of family size. Organic moments are also plentiful while kids run around and play. Above all, a location helps add timeless flair to pictures by showing what your home or town looked like unchanged for years and years to come.
Cons: Unfortunately, the sun isn’t always shining. Unpredictable weather is the downside of any outdoor photo session. A session may need to be rescheduled if mother nature doesn’t agree with our plans. When mother nature does agree, the little ones tend to be less cooperative as distractions are plentiful. Time is also a limiting factor. Outdoor photo sessions can often be a race against the clock or the sun in this case. With a limited window of good lighting from the sun, we are always on a tighter schedule outside. Seasonal changes also impact when and where we can shoot. Not all locations are available or photogenic year-round.
That about wraps up the pros and cons of our various shooting locations. When planning your next photo session with Thomas Photographic Services, we hope this post helps you create a more informed decision on where will work best for you! If you have any questions regarding each setting, don’t hesitate to reach out directly to our studio or on our Facebook page, and we will be more than happy to help!
