One of the first things we do during outdoor photoshoots on bright, sunny days is set up our lights. Around that time is when we often get a few confused faces. “Why would you need those?” is a question we frequently get asked. Wonder no more! In today’s blog, we are going to finally dispel the mystery of why we use lights even during our daylight photo sessions.
In photography, lighting is king! Without proper lighting, the quality of your photoshoot can suffer. Often times, when the sun is high, dark shadows can appear giving people raccoon eyes. If it’s overly sunny, you can also find yourself uncomfortably staring into the sun trying to fill in those shadows. No one wants raccoon eyes ruining their photos or to be staring into the sun for hours trying to get the right image! That’s where our lights come in!
Lighting equipment helps us fight off the sun and allows us to even out the shadows on our subject’s faces. It also gives us much more control over the photoshoot location. Even in unpredictable weather, where the sky may go from sunny to overcast in minutes, lights give us the flexibility to guarantee a crisp, clean image every time. And in situations where the sun may just be in the wrong point in the sky to capture the best background and lighting combo, it allows us to move our subject freely and still provide professional lighting. It even means we can position our subjects directly in front of the sun to create a magical, gorgeous glow behind them!
